这天，他干脆下田动手把禾苗一株株地往上拔高一节。他疲惫不堪地回到家里，对家里的人说："今天可把我累坏了！我一下子让禾苗长高了许多！"
他的儿子听了，连忙跑到田里去看。田里的禾苗全部枯萎了。
寓意：任何事物都有自己的规律；谁如果违背规律蛮干，就必然受到惩罚。

宋人有闵其苗之不长而揠之者，芒芒然归，谓其人曰："今日病矣！予助苗长矣！"其子趋而往视之，苗则稿矣。
