历史人物英语作文 篇1
When talking about the history of Three Kingdoms, Cao Cao comes to my mind with no hesitation.Cao Cao was a warlord of the Eastern Han Dynasty who had great power in his times. As a central figure of the Three Kingdoms period,Cao Cao laid the foundations for his son to establish the state of Wei. Although he often was portrayed as a merciless tyrant,Cao Cao was also a brilliant ruler and military genius. He was also talented in poetry.
Cao Cao always paid great attention to the bases of society - agriculture and education when he was alive. At that time, famine often killed many people and wore down the economy and army forces. Without food, armies failed without fighting. Knowing that, Cao was aware of the significance of food supply in building a strong military and a strong state. He carried a series of agricultural programs in cities of his state. He recruited refugees and gave them wasteland to cultivate. Later, encampments not faced with imminent danger of war were also made to farm. This system was continued and spread to all regions under Cao. As a result, his realm expanded largely. Although Caos main purpose was to feed a powerful army, the agricultural program greatly improved the living standards of the people, especially war refugees. Fortunately, Cao had eliminated his biggest enemy-- Yuan Shaos force. This spared him more time and energy on the construction within his realm. Cao ordered a rule decreeing the promotion of education throughout the counties and cities within his jurisdiction. An official in charge of education was assigned to each county with at least 500 households. Youngsters with potential and talents were selected for schooling. This prevented a lapse in the output of intellectuals in those warring years and benefited the people.
Cao Cao was very talented in military. In order to explain this, I need to mention a famous battle in the history---Guandu Battle. In 200, Yuan Shao amassed more than 100,000 soliders and marched southwards on Xuchang in the name of rescuing the emperor. On the contrary, Cao only gathered 20,000 soliers in Guandu, a significant place on theYellow River. Thinking that Caos men was only 1/5 of his army, Yuans pride guided him to meet Caos force head-on. Despite his overwhelming advantage in terms of manpower, Yuan lost this battle because the rebellion of his followers and Cao’s leadership and wisdom to make full use of the internal conflicts among Yuan’s large troop.
Besides,Cao Cao was an accomplished poet. A few of Caos works remain today but each poem is outstanding. His profound verses helped to reshape the poetic style of his time.Cao Cao was specifically noted for developments to the characteristic yuefu, which was very easy for singing and spreading. One of his most celebrated poems is in the old four-character line style: Tortoise Lives Long, in which he expressed his ambition. This poem inspired many people to pursue the dream desired all along the time, especially the people in their old age.
In my mind,Cao Cao is a big hero in his age. He realized the biggest dreams of the people in his age: to be the most powerful governor of a country, to win as many times as possible on the battlefield and to leave poems for the people to read even after thousands of years. He was talented in leadership, military and arts, which could make up for his shortcomings criticized by the people who couldn’t do better than Cao Cao.
历史人物英语作文 篇2
Mao Zedong (December 26, 1893 – September 9, 1976) was a Chinese military and political leader, who led the Communist Party of China (CPC) to victory against the Kuomintang (KMT) in the Chinese Civil War, and was the leader of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) from its establishment in 1949 until his death in 1976.
Regarded as one of the most important figures in modern world history, Mao is still a controversial figure today, over thirty years after his death. He is held in high regard in China where he is often portrayed as a great revolutionary and strategist who eventually defeated Chiang Kai-shek in the Chinese Civil War, and transformed the country into a major power through his policies. However, many of Maos socio-political programs such as the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution are blamed by critics from both within and outside China for causing severe damage to the culture, society, economy and foreign relations of China, as well as enormous and unnecessary loss of lives, a peacetime death toll in the tens of millions.
Although still officially venerated in China, his influence has been largely overshadowed by the political and economic reforms of Deng Xiaoping and other leaders since his death. Mao is also recognized as a poet and calligrapher.
历史人物英语作文 篇3
A ruler from the western state of Qin united and subjugated the Warring States and formed China in 221 B.C. He declared himself the first emperor of China and named himself Shi Huangdi (meaning First Emperor).
During the Qin (Chin) Dynasty (221 B.C. - 206 B.C.), the emperor connected and extended the old fortification walls along the north of China that originated about 700 B.C. (over 2500 years ago), forming the Great Wall of China to stop invading barbarians from the north.
The Emperor standardized Chinese writing, bureaucracy, scholarship, law, currency, weights and measures. He expanded the Chinese empire, built a capital in Xian, a system of roads, and massive fortifications and palaces.
Shi Huangdi (259-210 B.C.) was a cruel ruler who readily killed or banished those who opposed him or his ideas. He is notorious for burning virtually all the books that remained from previous regimes. He even banned scholarly discussions of the past.
The Qin dynasty ended soon after his death, but a unified China remained for over 2,000 years. Chinas name is derived from his short but seminal dynasty, Qin (pronounced Chin).

It’s great to hear from you. I feel proud knowing your interest in Chinese history.
As for my favourite figure in Chinese history, it must be Wei Yuan, a great thinker in the late Qing Dynasty. He, in his book, Haiguo Tuzhi (Maps and Records of the World), introduced modern technologies and ideas to China. That opened our eyes to the world. In fact, he inspires me to major in English in college to be a bridge between China and the world.
Interested in knowing more? I can find you some books! Just let me know.
Cheers!
