Teaching aims:1 Learning the sentence patterns: could/ could not (couldn't)

Teaching steps:
1 organization: (omitted)
2 Revision: Revise the reflexive pronouns the students have already learned.
3 Presentation:
(1) Look at the picture of Jim Say: This is Jim. He's at home.His father is at work. His mother is shopping. Then ask:Is his father/mother at home?---No, Jim is alone. He's all by himself .
(2) Look at the picture of Betty. Talk about Betty in the same way, using her father/ mother and She's all by herself.
(3) Divide the students into groups of four to ask and answer the questions,using reflexive pronouns, walk around and give help as needed.
4 Read and act :
Ask What's Lily doing? Play the tape for the students to listen and repeat.
Then the students practise the dialogue in pairs .Repeat with the second dialogue.
5 Ask and answer:
Ask two students to talk about the dialogue. Have the students practise the dialogue substituting the italic words with the ones from the box.
6 Practice:
Get the students to work in pairs and fill out the chart.
7 Homework:
(1) Finish the exercises im Page 97 in the workbook.
(2) Go over the lesson and recite Part 1
