The first period

Teaching aims :

1. Learn to talk about traveling and means of transportation .

2. Learn how to express good wishes.

3. Read and remember some of the new words.

Teaching methods:

1. Learn the new words.

2. Leading-in

a. What did you do in your summer holidays ? Did you stay at home or go to some places?

b. Where did you go?

c. Did you go by bus, by plane or on foot?

d. Where did you park your car?

e. Did you have a good sleep at night there?

f. What did you eat or drink?

g. Where did you put your plastic bags?

h. Did anyone smoke in the wood?

i. What do you think of your actions?

j. Have you ever noticed any other bad actions ?

3. Warming up

a. Look at the pictures and decide whether they are doing the right things or not.

b. Write your answers and check with your partner.

c. List different means of transportation.

d. Imagine you have a chance to travel to a certain place, what do you have to consider before you go?

Collect the students answers: money , weather ,clothes, time ,safety, destination, means of transportation and so on.

e. Group work : Discuss with your partner and tell each other how you would like to go to the following places and why. Act out the dialogue.

Four situations :

From Shanghai to London From Beijing to Guangzhou

From Chongqing to Chengdu From Dalian to Qingdao

3. Listening

Part one:

a. Imagine we were in the waiting room at an airport. We’ll listen to some boarding calls.

b. Teach board, on board, boarding cards, boarding calls and destination

d. Listen again, try to get the answers. Then check with their partners.

Part two:

a. Questions:

1) Can you name some of the famous places in Beijing?

2) Where can you find penguins?

3) Do you a famous artist called Leonardo da Vinci? Which picture is he famous for?

4) The Great Wall of China is one of the wonders of the world. Can you name some of the other wonders esp.in France?

b. Teach some of the new words.

c. Listen to the five world travelers and try to guess where they are.

The second period

2. Improve the students’ reading comprehension.

2. Fast reading and careful reading

Teaching process:

1. Speaking

a. Enjoy a song “Yesterday Once More ”

b. Ask questions.

1) Do you miss the happy days when you are a little boy or girl ?

2) Is it possible for you to go back to the past?

c. Now we have got a time machine. It’s a kind of machine that let’s travel in time. It’s possible for us to go back to the past or to go to the future. If you have a machine now, when and where would you like to go? Why? Write down your answers and your partners’ answers in the chart.

d. Ask one student from each group to report their answers.

Eg. Peter wants to go to 2008 in Beijing because he wants to watch the Olympic Games.

Mary wants to go back to the Jurassic period in order to discover why dinosaurs disappeared.

e. Make a similar dialogue according to the example.
