1. go by （时间）过去；（时机等）轻易放过；依照；从旁边经过
Ten years have gone by since I met him for the first time.从我第一次见到他以来已有十年了。
We should go by the rules. 我们应该照章办事。
As time goes by my memory seems to get worse. 随着时间的流逝，我的记忆力似乎越来越差。
2. what if 即使......又有什么要紧；倘使......将会怎样
What if she gets angry？即使她生气又有什么要紧？
What if we move the picture over there? Do you think it'll look better？ 即使我们把图片移到那边又能怎样？你认为那样看起来更好吗？
3. turn out 结果是；证明是；原来是
It turned out that he was not a teacher.原来他不是教师。
The examination turned out easy.结果考试并不难。
She turned out to be a friend of my sister. 她原来是我妹妹的朋友。
4. go up 上升；增长；提高；响起；沿......而去
So far the temperature has gone up.到目前为止温度已上升了。
They were going up the street.他们正沿街走去。
Cigarettes are going up in price. 香烟价格上涨了。
5. burn down 燃烧；使烧毁
All the houses burnt down in an hour.一个小时所有的房屋都烧毁了。
Don't leave the gas on-you might burn the house down. 不要让煤气炉一直开着--不然会把房子烧掉的。
6. read about 获悉；读关于......的文章
I read about the piece of news in the newspaper.我从报纸上获悉这条消息的。
I know it's true, because I read about it in the official report. 我知道那事是真的，因为我在官方报道上读到过关于它的文章。
7. fall in love with爱上；喜欢上
I fell in love with the car as soon as I saw it.我一见到那辆小汽车就喜欢上它了。
Young Hawkins has fallen in love with Sally Brown. 年轻的霍金斯爱上了沙利布朗。
8. consist of 由......构成
The book consists of ten chapters.全书共分十章。
The house consists of six rooms. 这幢房子由六个房间组成。
The committee consists of ten members. 委员会由10人组成。
9. make the most of 充分利用；尽量利用
We should make the most of time.我们应该充分利用时间。
You should make the most of your ability. 你应该充分发挥自己的才干。
George studied hard. He wanted to make the most of his chance to learn. 乔治学习很努力。他要充分利用学习的机会。
10. end up with以......结束；以......为下场
The party ended up with a pop song.聚会最后以唱了一首流行歌曲而结束。
