Teaching Plan

Title: Senior BII Lesson 65 (Dialogue)

Teaching Purposes:

To fully understand the dialogue, to freely use the expressions about

guessing sth is going to happen in the different situations offered by the

teacher; to improve the Ss’ listening and speaking by dialogue making.

Teaching Focus: The expressions about guessing sth is going to happen

Teaching Diffi culty: How to enlighten the Ss to freely use the patterns.

Teaching Methods: Teach-class, individual, pairs and groups.

Teaching Aids: Projector, tape recorder.

Step in teaching:

Step 1 Lead-in

1. Have a talk with Ss about my experience

Last summer I returned to my hometown. It is 20 years since I left

in 1982. When I got off the bus. I simply didn’t know where I was. “Is it

my hometown? I asked myself many times. It seemed that I was in a str-

-ange place. Do you know why? Yes, because everything has changed a lot.

The majority of the streets become wider and people dress better. Goods

in shops are very cheap. The industry is developing fast.My friends told

me that a lot of new factories would be built soon . But some people don’t

like new factories to be built there.

T: Do you like new factories? Why or why not? (Ss answer )

T: Some people encourage new industry because it will offer more jobs

for people who are out of work.Some people don’t like new factori es

because they will cause pollution.

2. Teach Ss new words and phrases

1) simply: really,only

2) majority: the greater number , most

eg. The majority of the students in your class are boys.

3) goods: things that are made to be sold

4) industry : the people and organizations that produce goods

5)out of work : lose one’s job

Step 2 Presentation

1. Listening

Tell Ss: Today Let’s study Lesson 65. In the text ,Jenny and Mei Ge

are talking of their new factories. Listen to the dialogue with

the next questions.

1) Why does the manager want to build a new factory?

2) What’s the problem with building the new factory?

3) Why do some people agree to build it?

4) Why are some people against it?

2. Play the tape again for Ss to listen and repeat

3.Ask Ss to practise the dialogue in pairs

Step 3 Drills

1. Pick out the words and expressions for guessing

T: Is Mei Ge sure that a decision will be made before the end of the year ?

S: No.

T: Mei Ge is not sure. She is guessing.In the dialogue, there are some

sentences for guessing. Please pick them out.

1) How to ask sb what will happen

Do you think sb is going to …….?

Do you think it is possible that……?

What do you think is likely to happen ?

2) How to express your own idea on guessing

I simply don’t know. / He may…..

I think he will…. /I am afraid so ( not )

I don’t think so. /I think ( believe ) so

It’s likely ( possible ) for sb to do sth

Sb is likely to do sth

2. Practise: T: There is a blind man walking on the street.

Five metres in front of him there is a hole. What do you think

is likely to happen to the blind man?

S: He is likely to fall into the hole.

3. Ask Ss to complete the next sentences according to the different

stituations with the expressions that they have learned

1) There are a lot of black clouds in the sky ( rain )

It is ___________________.

2) It’s 8:30. Jack is leaving his house. He has to be at

work at 8:45 but the journey takes 30 minutes ( late)

He ______________________________

3) There is a hole in the botton of the boat. A lot of

water is coming in through the hole.(sink)

It is possible that _____________________

4) Kate is driving . There is very little gas left in the

tank.The nearest gas is a long way (run out of)

It’s possible for _______________ gas.

5) The other day, Mr. Black fell off his bike. He

was badly hurt and sent to hospital.(get out of)

I am afraid he _____________ the hospital soon.

4. Ask Ss to raise a question to each sentence using the

expressions for showing possibility

Step 5 Dialogue Production

Stituation: A and B are father and son. Son is going out

for a picnic with his classmates this weekend.

They are discussing the coming weather.

1. Ss make up new dialogues ( pair work )

2. Ask 2 pairs to go to the front and act out their dialogues.

3. Do Ex.3 on page 93.

Step 6..Homework

1. Read the dialogue

2. Do Ex.2 and Ex.4 in Wb

3. Preview the next lesson
