这三个词（组）都表示"许多"的意思，但用法各异:
many 用于代替或修饰可数名词复数形式，much用于代替或修饰不可数名词。如：
There are many cars and trucks in the street. 街道上有许多小汽车和卡车。
How much rice do you want? 你想要多少米饭？
a lot of ( = lots of )通常用于口语或非正式文体中，它后面既可接可数名词复数(=many)，又可接不可数名词（=much）。常用于肯定句中。如：
I have a lot of (much) work to do this evening. 今晚我有许多作业要做。
The teacher often gives us lots of (many) funny projects in English. 英语课上老师经常给我们许多有趣的项目。
a lot相当于very much，在句中作状语，修饰动词时，一般放在动词之后。如：
Thanks a lot. 多谢了。
