Step 1 Review
1.Show some pictures of famous people in China’s history. Ask students to introduce the famous people according to the pictures and the knowledge they know.
2. Show the pictures of Confucius to lead to the new lesson.
His main ideas are about kindness and good manners.
He was also a famous philosopher whose wise sayings have influenced many people in different countries.
Step 2 Presentation 1. Listen to 1a and complete the table in 1b.
2. Watch the flash and read 1a.
Step 3 Consolidation 1. Read 1a and explain the key points.
2. Find out attributive clauses.

Step 1 Review 1. Discuss the famous sayings and translate them into Chinese in groups.
2. Report Confucius’ life story according to the information which they have learnt from Section A.
3. Show the pictures about Zheng He’s ocean journeys. Ask students to talk about the famous explorer. Lead to 1a.
As a captain and palace official, Zheng He led seven ocean journeys from 1405 to 1433
The compass played an important role in Zheng He’s sailing.
He sailed to the east coast of Africa.
Unfortunately, he died of illness on his way home from Africa in 1433.
Step 2 Presentation 1. Listen to 1a and choose the correct answers. Finish 1b.
2. Watch the flash and repeat. Pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation.
Step 3 Consolidation 1. Read 1a and complete the table.

Step 1 Review 1. Combine each two sentences into one with who, whom, whose, which or that.
1) Zheng He was a Ming dynasty explorer. We Chinese people are proud of him.
