The first period

1) Listening practice the exercise will be more useful and interesting if you encourage the ss to move beyond the obrious uses of the objects described..

Ⅲ Difficulties:

1) Describe things then get the ss to guess what I am describing.

Ⅳ Teaching process:

Step one: warming up.

Learn the new words and expressions. Play the tape for the ss to listen and repeat. Read the words and expressions correctly.

step two: revision:

talk about some inventors and inventions.

Edison invented some inventions in his life.

Step three: Warming up

Introduction: this activity provides a good opportunity to talk about creativity and to practise problem solving skills.

Instruction: when the ss have solved the problems, ask them how they did it and compare different solutions. Ask the ss what creativity is and if it is possible to learn how to be creative.

Useful things: encourage the ss to think of as many uses as possible. It is not important if the new use is useful. Explain why/ now it will be useful.

Talk box. The emphasis is on having ss explain their choices and solutions.

True or false. Encourage the ss to think of more true or false questions.

Step 4. Listening

Introduction: you will hear description of every objects and are asked to try to guess what is being described.

Instruction: play the tape for the ss to listen carefully and try to guess what is being descried. Discuss how the objects can be used.

Step 5 Feedback. Practise in class

Listen to the tape and fill in the information chart below.

2) look at the space projects below and decide which one is the most useful.

step one: Revision

Get the ss to read the new words and expressions by heart.

Step two: Speaking

Introduction: this group discussion is an opportunity for the ss to practise their ability to express support and challenge an opinion.

Jane wants to buy a cellphone, but before she buys one. She wants to know what her parents and her friend think. You will role-play the discussion.

Instruction: divide the ss into groups and explain that they are going to prepare a role play and have a discussion. Each group member will play one of the roles and must prepare a role card.

1) decide who plays jane will be the group leader.

2) Remind the ss that jane should open the discussion and take turns introducing themselves and stuting their opinion as outlined in 4 and 5

3) Jane opens the meeting by welcoming everybody. She also explains why they are meeting and asks everyone to help her make her decision.

4) Each group member introduces himself/herself and states his or her opinion and reasons.

5) Remind the ss that each group member must try to make the other agree with him or her.

Step three: Feedback. Practice in class

Step three: Reading life on the go

Introductions the reading discusses the increasing popularity of cellphones in Chinese society cellphones are everywhere and have positive and negative effects on our life.

Intruction:

1. ask the ss to read the first para. Quickly to get the main idea of the text.

2. ask the ss to do the following.

A. try to guess what the next paragraph will talk about .ask the ss what they think and why they think so. Compare different answers.

B. Try to guess what the whole text will talk about .

2) ask the ss to use the answers to write a simple outline of the text. Work in pairs or groups to write the outline.

3) Let the ss read the whole text. Ask them to compare their outline with the text and note any differences.

Step five: Post-reading

1) Discuss the questions in groups. Then report your answers

2) Questions 2 and 3 can be answered by skimming or scanning.
