Step I Organization: Greetings.
Step II Lead-in
First, ask the students : “ What date is it today?” ( The answer is World AIDS Day.)
Then divide the class into two groups to compete with each other about the knowledge of AIDS.
1. What virus causes AIDS? ( HIV )
2. HIV is something that a baby can get through the genes(基因) from its parents. ( T or F )3. Only bad people get AIDS. ( T or F)
4. List more than 3 ways via which HIV can not be transmitted: (cups,glasses,toilet seats,swimming pools,mosquitoes, other insects or giving blood)
5.When was the first case of AIDS discovered? ( In 1981 )6. In 2002, how many people living with AIDS in the
world? ( 42 million )
Step III Reading procedure
1. Skimming
Give the students several minutes to read the text
and try to find the general idea of each paragraph.
Para 1: Who is Xiaohua?
Many children become infected with HIV every day.
Para 5: What kind of life Xiaohua lives.
Para 6: AIDS patients have to deal with people’s fear of the disease.
Para 7: Learn to live with AIDS.
2. Scanning
Ask the questions about the details in each paragraph to help the students understand the text further.
