Dear Edior,

¡¡¡¡I¡¯m a student of Huayang No. 1 Middle School. In front of our school gate is a street, on both sides of which are many shops and restaurants. Every day during rush hour, especially at noon, stalls selling everyday goods and food appear on the street, which makes it terriblycrowded. First, cars and passersby have difficulty in passing through the street. Thus it makes it dangerous for the students to go in or out of school. Secondly, the street is made dirty with so many plastic bags and waste water everywhere.

¡¡¡¡A school, in my opinion, should be a place with clean and quiet surroundings. So I do hope some measures should be taken to improve the situation.

¡¡¡¡Yours sincerely

Li Hua

¡¡¡¡I have got a problem and I need to ask for your help. I feel I am a little too fat. What¡¯s worse,I am putting on weight all the time. I am very worried about my figure and how I look. I even fear that some of my classmates call me names.

¡¡¡¡At one time, I tried to work out in a gym two or three times, but I finally gave up just because I had no time for it and always felt very tired after doing exercise. Once I tried going on a diet. However, after about a week, I could not go on because I felt so hungry that I was not able to continue my studies. Then I bought and took weight-loss pills in secret. Shortly after, they did work and I was losing weight fast. But soon I felt tired and weak sometimes.

¡¡¡¡I know those pills usually have bad effects on our health. Thus, I don¡¯t know what I should do. Could you be kind enough to give some good advice.

¡¡¡¡Life is a struggle. I shall never forget the most striking part of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow' s poem -- A Psalm of Life: "In the world's blood field of battle, In the bivouac of life, Be not like dumb, driven cattle! Be a hero in the strife!"

¡¡¡¡Ludwig van Beethoven was a typical "hero in the strife". He was not only one of the greatest composers, but also one of the most persevering men. As a deaf man, he went on working with his strong will in the last year of his life, though he was not able to hear his own fine and original music. Another example of persistence in struggle is Deng Yaping. She once said that her technique came from continuous training, emphasizing the importance of daily practice to a player.

¡¡¡¡As a student, I seem to be in a boat sailiug against the current. I must make an effort to forge ahead. A little carelessness will result in being driven back. Indeed, learning is a struggle against idleness and carelessness. Following the examples of Ludwig van Beethoven and Deng Yaping, I shall take great pains to urge myself on, moving steadily forward like a heroic boatman in the rough sea of knowledge.

¡¡¡¡Ladies and gentlemen,From Chart 1, we can see high school students are from different family backgrounds.

¡¡¡¡Besides local students, who make up 91 percent, eight percent of the students are the children of non-local workers. Another 1 percent are foreigner students.

¡¡¡¡As is shown in chart 2, sixty percent of them intend to go to university, which is double the

¡¡¡¡number of those who will attend vocational schools. Besides, the other ten percent choose to go abroad for further study.

¡¡¡¡In conclusion, it seems clear that our city government has made more efforts to help the non-local workers, whose children can enjoy the equal right of a good education with the city

¡¡¡¡students. Also with the economic development of our city, more foreigners are attracted to set up businesses here and they are happy to send their children to local schools to learn more about China and Chinese culture. In addition, we have more freedom to choose what we would like to do after graduation. Going to college is no longer the only choice for most of us as it was years ago.

¡¡¡¡In my opinion, the schoolwork now being assigned to high school students is too heavy. while it is true that students need to study, they need other things as well if they are to grow into healthy and well-rounded adults. high should be allowed more time for play. plying is not wasting time, as some think. it gives them physical exercise, and also exercise their imagination. which tends to be stifled by too much study.

¡¡¡¡Finally, the pressure put on high school students by excessive schoolwork can cause serious stress, which is unhealthy physically and mentally. i do not advocate the elimination of schoolwork. i do think, however, that a reduction of the current heavy load would be beneficial to students and to the society as a whole.

¡¡¡¡In high school, Chinese students study very hard to fight for the future college, while in western countries, students are spending time in taking all kinds of activities. Though students from different countries have different ways to spend high school time, they make the decision and take charge of their life.

¡¡¡¡This is the best age to learn knowledge, their brain can remember words and numbers quickly. For making friends, they will probably meet their lifetime friends. During three years, besides gaining knowledge and making friends, they grow so fast, not only in body, but also in mind. Being independent is the main feature. They can make a lot of decisions without asking parents for help. When they are equipped themselves with basic skill, then they can better get used to the new environment, which is important for future life.

¡¡¡¡The first day of my high school, I was told that the freshmen would need to join the military training. I felt so scared, because in the summer days, the sun was so hot and I would be burned like a black man. But there was no way for the freshman to refuse to join the military training. The training lasted for a week, in the first two days, we stood under the hot sun, moving around the playground and song. It was tough, but in the coming days, we got used to it and started to enjoy the free time.

¡¡¡¡All the students were like a group, we trained together, we sweated and played. In the evening, we would song in the playground. Now when I think of these days, I will smile and treat these military training days as the unforgettable memory in my life.

During the holidays, enjoy the joy of relaxation is excessive, sometimes can not adapt to the intense study and work after school, fear school, tired of learning psychology, so that the learning efficiency is low, also not to learn a bit of enthusiasm.

¡¡¡¡Born in America, Thomas Edison was a great scientist and inventor. He was once thought to be a boy who was not worth educating. In fact, he was a man full of imagination.

¡¡¡¡I admire Edison a lot because of his great contribution to the world. He had more than 1,000 inventions. In his lifetime, he was always eager to know how things worked, which helped him to earn the nickname the Wizard of Melo Park .He was also so diligent that he worked day and night. And this explained why he had so many great inventions.

¡¡¡¡What impresses me most is his famous saying, Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. Probably I cannot be an Edison myself, but I can be a hard-working learner. From him, I realize the secret to success is not when or where you were born, but what you are doing and how you do it in your life.

¡¡¡¡We Chinese celebrate our harvest festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, on the 15th of August (lunar month). The special food for this festival is mooncakes, so people also call this festival Moon Festival.

¡¡¡¡Mooncakes are something like pies. There are different kinds of mooncakes, some have fruit in them, some have nuts in them, and even some have meat in them. All of them are delicious. Just like Christmas and Thanksgiving in the West, it¡¯s one of the most important and traditional events for us Chinese. It is also a time for family members to get together. Children come back home to have dinner with their parents. This night, the moon is round and bright. People enjoy the full moon, which is considered as a symbol of the harmony and luck.
